Professor of Mathematics at Universite Paris Diderot-Paris 7

Xiaonan Ma (born 1972) is currently Professor of Mathematics at Universite Paris Diderot-Paris 7 (since 2007). He got his Bachelor degree at Wuhan University in China in 1993. He received his PhD (in 1998) and Habilitation in Mathematics from the University of Paris-Sud (Orsay). He worked at Humboldt Universitat zu Berlin and University of California, Santa-Cruz before he became in 2001 Charge de recherche at CNRS, Centre de Mathematiques Laurent Schwartz, Ecole Polytechnique, until 2007.

Prizes and Distinctions:

Prof. Ma's research interests lie in Topology and Differential Geometry. He is one of the leading experts in the field of Index Theory and Global Analysis on Manifolds. More specifically, he works on analytic and differential-topological properties of eta-invariants and Ray-Singer analytic torsion, elliptic genera, Bergman kernels and geometric quantization. The research areas are at the heart of the mathematical component of the KPA III. Prof. Ma will greatly contribute through his outstanding research and his teaching to the development of these areas at the University of Cologne.
